Flare, Aircraft: Countermeasure, M206 is an infrared decoy to be used with aircraft dispenser systems and shall not be substituted with the XM211 or XM212 flares.This flare is dispensed from aircraft to decoy infrared seeking missile threats away from the aircraft. The M206 flare is wrapped with an aluminum filament reinforced tape and inserted into an aluminum case that is closed with a felt spacer and a small plastic end cap. The top of the case has a pyrotechnic impulse cartridge that is activated electrically to produce hot gases that push a piston, flare material and end cap out of the aircraft into the air stream.
